Now

Be present, be completely here
Only now is real
Savour the picture
Drink in the sound
Absorb the way you feel

Centre and ground, stay earthbound
So much can carry you away
Marry the moment
Surrender to it
Don't come back another day

Now deserves you, here and now
Now belongs to you
For if it passes
It won't turn around
Now won't come back to you

Enough

She isn’t
Strong enough
Sweet enough
Young enough
Smart enough
Thin enough
Tall enough
Sure enough
Tough enough

She isn’t,
just isn’t… enough

She doesn’t
Do enough
Eat enough
Work enough
Talk enough
Read enough
Pray enough
Earn enough
Sleep enough

She isn’t,
just isn’t… enough

I’ll never
Try enough
Cry enough
Fight enough
Write enough
Pull enough
Push enough
Live enough
Die enough

Somehow, enough
just isn't... enough

Cold and Common

I have no control of my sorry nose
My phlegmy throat or chest
My head is heavy, my eyelids too
I’m a big old sorry mess.

My M’s are B’s and my N’s are D’s
There’s a ringing in my ears
My voice is muffled, rough and thick
And I sneeze myself to tears

I don’t want meds though the cough syrups nice
I don’t want to Vicks or steam
I don’t want khichdi or hot chicken broth
And I don’t want ginger tea

I’d like to sleep without sleeping upright
I’d like to taste my food
I’d like to breathe easy, and not through my mouth
I’d like to be in a good mood.

Dear common cold, we’re at the halfway point
Of your holiday in my body and brain
Let me say goodbye while you’re still around
So long, till we meet again

Happy 2014

2014 begins. As always, I have a good feeling. And I refuse to believe that this year will be anything but spectacular. As far as I’m concerned, (and despite a vicious food poisoning episode on New Year’s eve) the year’s already started off brilliantly.

But before I bid a complete adieu to 2013, I thought I’d chronicle some yays and nays of the year just gone.

1.     I never did my Yoga Teacher’s Training. The timing just wasn’t right. Ever. I have a feeling that 2014 will be the year. I just hope the kind folks at the Sivananda centre don’t write me off as that loony who keeps writing to us but never shows up for the training.
2.     I did an awesome trip to Greece with 5 wonderful women, each of whom is a special kind of Goddess (in keeping with the Greek theme) and incredibly fun. Women friends rule.
3.     I rode a quad bike for the first time and loved it (courtesy Greece trip).
4.     I bought my Macbook Air, a constant companion nowadays.
5.     I made some quirky new friends, some of them most unexpected. And I’m very grateful for having chanced upon them.
6.     Sadly, a special friend flowed out of my life as well.
7.     I saw my first ever double rainbow J (If you look closely at the picture you'll just about see the second one)
8.     I didn’t achieve my many ambitious fitness goals. Mostly because I hemmed and hawed my way through getting around to them. All fitness efforts this year will be directed towards completing my Yoga Training.
9.     I didn’t do as much writing as I wanted to. BUT, I did start a blog. Again. And managed to write a little bit. Plus, I landed a fun writing project, which I’m excited about.
10. Work was good, and terrible, and ok and then good again. I expect big things this year. Unfortunately I’m quite sure I won’t be able to put the word ‘big’ before increment L
11. I had a fabulous new haircut and got many compliments for it J
12. Phala got married. Woohoo. And we have a new member in the family.
13. I never did start that food blog with the roomie. Big Fail. And we have video evidence of this being a 2013 resolution.
14. The roomie and I also never got married (another 2013 resolution). Boys, there’s hope for you, yet.
15. I went to the Ajmer Dargah Sharif with my 2 besties J. It was a quickie trip and also my only train trip in 2013.
16. I did one thing that scared me. I'm not telling.
17. I got 2 more tattoos.
18. I travelled to Dubai for the first time.

All in all, a pretty good year.

And now on to 2014.

Redaa

Fair-haired girl of so many colours
She can’t help but stand out among others
She brightens up my life in so many ways
She’s the mist of the morning and the light of the day
She is earth and she is fire
Quick to laugh, an emotional crier
She speaks with words, her eyes and her hands
She’s a language not everyone understands
She loves too easy, she loves too much
This is her strength and it is her crutch
She is the ether, she is the air
Even when she’s gone, she’s always there
She is a map but loves to get lost
She’s true to her heart whatever the cost
A second, a minute, a year older
Sometimes shy, and sometimes bolder
She may be soft, but she is strong
My heart is somewhere she will always belong
She’s a little bit magic, a little mystery
Thank God our souls have an incredible history

with love, to one of the most beautiful people I know, on her birthday
